Samaresh Bose , the most colorful character

At the very outset I must clearly  mention that I shall not deal with his literary work . I shall restrict my topic in trying to know Samaresh Bose as a person only.
He was the most colourful character of our time. So far  I remember  I saw him first at Garki Sadan  where he was due to  deliver a lecture on Maxim Garkey. At that time he was around fifty five to sixty but was  looking much lesser.

He was not a very tall person but looked very handsome and had a romantic look.
His very special and uncommon appearance with a softness in behavior might attract everyone  irrespective of gender .

Afterwards  I listened to his lecture for an hour on Garki Sadan. To me this was a magnificent lecture with his beautiful Bengali and sweet voice.

After that I had an opportunity to see him in book fair for two occasions. By this time his  I had read his novel "Shambo"  and two or three writings about person Samaresh.
To me he was an exceptionally outstanding person and there was no doubt of it. His life story will speak about his excellent  extra ordinary capacity. He didn't get regular education but he himself educated him. He acquired a vast knowledge about literature. He during his tender age worked in a jute mill at Naihati as unskilled labour and associated with the trade union movement and also communist party of India and had been sent to jail also.

He married at a very early age and  became father of his children at a tender age .
He had to  face extreme financial hardship during that time. Ultimately he started literary  work and continued the same up to last day of his life .

As a writer he got massive success and the same was his full time profession. The extent of his success can be appreciated in view of the fact during those days it was very difficult for him to earn livelihood by writing only while Samaresh was very successful in this area .

This also suggested his power of writing. At the age of fortythree  his personal life stood before a radical change .
He married for the 2nd time and settled in Kolkata with his second wife .He however met all his commitments to his first wife and his children through out his life.

I have no capacity to assess about his literary work. I however read in an article that his  place in Bengali literature was next to Tara Sankar Bandapadhya. I have not seen Rabindranath who was Rabindranath   without any formal education.

I have however seen Samaresh who had the similarity with Rabindra nath in this regard. Only those who educated themselves with their own efforts can realise the extent of tremendous hard tasks were to educate themselves.

Lots have been written about him and those were well prepared. I have just tried to pay my respectful tribute in the sacred memory of this outstanding personality in the shape of this scattered writing from my memory.
