INTELLECTUALS

The very word INTELLECTUALS is full of controversies specially in Bengal and  different times severe Debates have been entered over the definition of the same.

I myself have heard that a scholar saying that the farmers , laborers etc should also be treated as intellectuals as they apply their intelligence.

Similarly  a question may be raised that bureaucrats are always criticized otherwise condemned.

I have never heard to be praised for any work. It however can't be denied that all important decisions of the country in regard to the Administration, defense, foreign affairs and trade and commerce etc they take by  applying their best intelligence why they will not be recognized as intellectuals ???

The matter indeed is very confusing. We may discuss about our state  and the same is very interesting.

We find here intellectuals are sharply divided in right and left group. Let us set aside  right  and left controversies.

During my student life those who were regarded as intellectuals they were  above all controversies like Hiren Mukherjee, Suniti Kumar Chatterjee , Susovan Sarkar , Dr.Sukumar Sen ,  Humaun    kabir, Satyendra nath  Bose, Satyajit Ray, Sambhu Mitra, Amlan  Datta , Vishnu Dey,  Bibekananda Mukherjee etc.

Compare to this list present list appears to be very weak. Besides a reasonable and strong controversy has cropped up over the recognition to few persons who are known as mainly actor of Bengali films or stage or Bengal Serial.

  Hence    perhaps It may be said along with other things the standard of of intellectuals have deteriorated at least in Bengal .
