Poor Bengali seems to be over burdened with excess festivals.

  I personally feel that Bengali people are over burdened with festivals. Apart from good number of pujas there are number of festivals  .To me these are burdens for the lower middle class families and poor families like Bhaifota,  jamai Shasti , Shibratri  , Rash purnima, Jhulan purnima, Dol purnima , Janmastashtami ,poush  Sankrati, Ranna pujo etc.

I am sure so many festivals give immense problems to the lower middle class and poor families. I had the opportunity to see the financial crisis faced by the ordinary families like jamai shasti which is a very expensive occasion. Apart from these Birthday of grand sons and grand daughters ,rice eating ceremony . Those who are Brahmin "Paite" is compulsory for them.At present time marriage anniversary celebration has become a convention. I have mentioned only a few.
Apart from these many festivals are left.

It is needless to mention that the extent of financial taxation are imposed on   lakhs of families.

Now a big question who is to bell the cat?

Of course this is purely my personal opinion considering the financial condition of the lakhs  of poor and lower middle class families.It may so happen that they do not want any change.

Today eighty eighth birthday of All India Radio.

Those who were born after 1980 they are perhaps  not aware of Radio. In 1975 Television came for domestic use yet the same we're in very limited families and  from 1980 it started entering in middle  class and upper middle class families widely. By this time Radios had   been given fair well . we the senior citizens are having  sweet  memories  about Akash Bani. We used to listen to  many Programmes since our childhood. like Galpa Dadur Ashar.

On Sunday possibly Respected Indira Devi used to conduct  named "Chhotoder Ashar". There was a famous programme on Sunday morning named  Sangeet Sikhar  Ashar conducted by Pankaj Kumar Mallik , Anurodher Ashar , Bengali theatre ,  Rabindra Sangeet and Adhunik songs,Bengal news from Delhi and Kolkata and Dhara bibarani of important football and cricket matches etc were also broadcasted .

Our childhood to young age Radio took the most vital role .We are therefore have become nostalgic. Fortunately Radio  is still used in many villages. Long live Radio!

Kolkata and it's speciality .

  Possibly Kolkata is the only city which has plenty number of critics and equally fans . The critics are vocals about the roads,  beautification , crowded transport , Scarcity of Taxi from Howrah and Sealdaha stations and from Kolkata Air port. Many of the above grievances have been solved.

Firstly roads have been repaired to a large extent and the taxi problems too have been solved to a large extent. The river Ganges has been given a new appearance. It can't be denied that this city is for all religion's people  irrespective of rich middle class poor  etc.

I don't know whether such large number of public vehicles ply in any other city of the country. Two types of educational institutions exist here ine for rich and the other for  middle class and low middle class and poor people. There are number of Hotels and Restaurants for the elite section and for the poor people there are number of street Hotels where a large number of common people take their lunch.

Two medical system are in existence. For the common people Govt. hospitals and for the others private hospitals and Nursing homes are there. For the common people ordinary market along with Footpath are available and for the rest there is an option of Shopping malls as well.

Another very very special features of the city is during Durgapuja the huge gathering to the puja pandals and the same continues about a week . I don't whether any such huge gathering is found for a week for any occasion. It should be further mentioned Kolkata has been changed to a large extent especially for the lighting arrangements and the parks have been given completely new shape and appearance. Newly built Rajarhat and Newton look like foreign cities.

Despite various weakness of the city we love Kolkata as our hot favourite city.

Bengali in trade and business .

Once Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy constantly advised Bengalis to be involved with business. He himself was the founder of Bengal chemical. Presently a large number of Bengalis have been engaged in Business and their honest labour and sincerity is highly appreciable . In every locality it will be noticed that they have opened medicine shops ,grocery shops along with stationery Sweets and garments etc. I salute them for their enthusiasm and struggle.

They are self dependent and in most of the cases they are maintaining their own families. It may be mentioned that the number of such business men are huge.  I salute them for solving their own unemployment problem.

Apart from them a large section of Bengali young men are engaged in small manufacturing business. A large section are engaged in supply business. Besides a big number are engaged in construction and development work etc.

Besides these there  are so many business where the young Benglis are engaged. I believe if Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy had  been alive he would have been the happiest person for execution of his dream.

It is the fact that no Bengali is possibly engaged in big manufacturing industry but it can't be denied that a large section of Bengali are engaged in big trade like garments and ornaments etc.

The skeleton of our Tea Industry.

Once upon a time we were proud of our Tea industry. We used to export a substantial quantity of our production. In Asia , China India and srilanka  were the major tea producing countries and our Tea gardens are mainly in Darjeeling jalpaiguri and Duars . The conditions of
of the gardens of the Duars are the worst. The owners are entirely responsible for the deplorable condition of the tea gardens.

They have neglected like  anything. As a result , most of the gardens have been closed and the workers are under extreme  crisis and almost  are under starvation. As a result ,  a good number of workers have been attacked with various diseases and ultimately died .

It is surprising
that despite our domestic market for tea being so big there should be no crisis.
As per news papers a good number of gardens have not involved themselves in plantation in  their gardens and as a result , there is no scope  to sell any  tea.

It is my humble prayer to the appropriate   Authority  to take the requisite steps at the earliest so that the golden days of the industry are returned.

Young persons and drug addiction.

The effect of drugs are most dangerous for the country and  society. It has enough power to destroy our young generation. Those who want our downfall they  tactfully introduce the same.

The characteristics of the drug is that the boys who start taking the drug become so addicted that without this they become mad and go at any level for the same. In case they are having shortage of fund they can even steal money and  various goods from their homes.

It destroys the different parts of the body slowly and ultimately they die. They loose appetite completely and also suffer from sleeplessness.
They also suffer from weight loss , loss of memory and practically they become a  total liability of the family and of the society and gradually go  towards death.

The appropriate Authority may take all steps to stop the  Drugs  to protect the  young generation and our society.

The syllabus of primary education.

I  personally feel though I may be wrong yet both in  Govt. primary schools and Private schools the students are overloaded with syllabus.The kids can't carry the bags since the same are so heavy. As a result they are deprived from childhood. They can't enjoy the childhood and the very word JOY is absent in their lives.

It is my humble prayer to the appropriate Authority kindly to review the whole matter and  arrange to reduce the same as far as possible so that they can enjoy their childhood .

Widow marriage.

Iswar Chandra VidyaSagar was the father of widow marriage movement and he had to face a lot of hindrances and constraints and however, ultimately he succeeded. It can't be denied in reality the same was not successful .We know VidyaSagar mahasay arranged number of widow marriages under his initiative and cost . However, the purposes seemed to have not served anything in view of the fact that our society was extremely conservative and even the life of VidyaSagar was at stake. Since then long time has passed and the situation seems to have not changed much and more or less similar position persists.

It is hardly heard about the widow marriage. Even the widow is of tender age the marriage does not take place. I believe even at present time the number of widow marriage is negligible.

How to introduce  the widow  marriage widely ? Indeed we require right now a second VidyaSagar !

Old age homes .

In our state the concept of old age homes has become very popular. For various reasons the senior citizens are compelled to take there shelter in old age homes.In most of the cases there is none to look after them as for example son or sons are in the job either in other states or in abroad. The daughter or daughters are married. Hence it is not possible for them to look after their parents.

Sometimes the reason may be serious lack of adjustment with the son and daughter.All these reasons lead to huge number of senior persons to leave their families and go to the homes. These homes are situated at different   Places and charge different rates .

My suggestion is before finalising to verify everything as stated in the advertisements and should be convinced to the fullest extent. The goodwill of the  same same should be verified from the local people and on being hundred percent convinced only final decision to be taken. Special importance must be given on the medical treatment.    arrangements in existence and the  same provided to the Boarders.

Lack of cleanliness .

In most of the Govt. offices  it will come to notice the incidents of dirtiness.  Despite there are dustbins yet many people use the walls of the staircases. As a result  the walls not only looks indecent  but also they become  a  good source of germs . Besides the  dustbins should be cleaned regularly and the same are not being done and as a result, the same over flow.

In the sections where the officials  work  in most of the cases the floors are not  maintained well . Pieces of  cigarettes   and  papers  are found. The most  deplorable conditions may be seen in the toilet.Unfortunately even the basins are always dirty.

Incidentally it may be mentioned that all the  employees are highly educated only a bit consciousness is required for the cleanliness.

Dowry is continuing !

Earlier I had written about the drawbacks of Dowry. But the fact is the same is continuing among all section of people means from rich families to poor families.
Rich and higher middle class families do not have any problems.  The rich families out of their own spend  plenty of money and they give more than enough to their daughters mainly in kind. Here the groom side does not need  to place any demand. If at all they have any special demand they put their clams. Same is applicable in respect of higher middle class grooms.

In case of lower middle class and poor families in most of the Cases direct demands are placed and sometimes after negotiations a settlement  is reached. However , It appears from the newspapers the incidents of killing the wives due to failure in meeting the demand.

The most imtersting features are in case of love marriage in most of the case the practice of Dowry continues. In these cases means love marriage a good number of wives have been killed.Many lower and poor families have been finished for meeting the Dowry. Indeed it is just like a trade. The bride side incurs huge expenditure for purchasing a groom.

The system at least could have been controlled if the grooms had  stood against the uncivilised practice. Unfortunately most of the grooms whether educated or not remain silent and leave the matter to their parents and the same suggests that they have full support on the system.

I don't think  the system is going to get abolished.

Renowned physician examines the patients from 12-4 am.

One evening I had been  at a Nursing home to consult a reputed physician . I was informed that the physician  starts examining at seven .I was therefore asked to reach at seven.  accordingly I reached thete. After  reaching I came to know my serial number and my turn came at ten . At that time I noticed that one famous Doctor came and came to know that he would examine the patients from night 12 to 4. I was astonished to hear about the time. Patients who will come from distant places they have possibly to start in the afternoon or evening. The patients have to take their dinner on the way. Those who come by rented  car they will have to pay a  handsome amount for car fare. It is obvious that the patients are physically unfit yet for consulting they are to pass a sleepless night which may cause further complications.

My question is  should it be a system? There is possibility of being more ill in stead of getting cured which is the main objective of coming to  such a renowned  doctors.

It is my humble request to the appropriate Authority to consider the unusual harassments of the ailing  persons and   kindly to review the entire matter in the interest of the patients.

Gradual increase of the number of accidents in the road of the city.

It appears from the newspapers that everyday some car accidents happen in Kolkata and either few persons die or some get injured seriously.

Unfortunately every year a good number of persons die and those are injured and  due to major injury many victims permanently become handicapped. To avoid the undesired circumstances it is my humble prayer to the appropriate Authority to take utmost care while issuing driving licence and to be the maximum strict in regard to completion of driving training and should ensure that there is no slightest shortcomings and  there should be no compromise in this area .

The sanctioning authority should be hundred percent satisfied in respect of every candidate as far as training is concerned. The traffic rules should be applied strictly. Besides the roads are also the reasons for the accident and the roads should be maintained properly and repair work should be taken immediately where necessary.

I don't know whether there is any system of check up of eyes. If not , the same should be compulsory for the licence holders once a year. Poor eyesight is one of the reasons of the accident.

Every life is important and the death of the all victims carry the same condolence. Yet the sudden death of creative persons give us tremendous shock like recently singer Kalika Prosad Bhattacharya and sometimes back actor Pijush Ganguly.

Bike accidents and death thereof.

It is very often seen in the newspapers that  due to Bike accident everyday some persons die or get injured .Out of the victims a large section are of  very tender age possibly completed school education and entered into colleges.

But  they become extremely interested for a bike considering the ability of the parents to give a gift for their sons and in most of the cases they are the only son. The sons also after placing the demand start  to pressurise. Ultimately the parents willingly or unwillingly sanction their demands. If the parents play a strict role by rejecting the demands the number of accidents may be reduced. Besides being very young without sufficient training start using the bikes with high speed exceeding the permissible limits resulting in accident.

It is my humble request to the appropriate. Authority to be  as strict as possible in these cases in respect licence etc.

Premature death at Puri and Digha seas.

Very unfortunately It is noticed that when a group of young people go  to Puri and Digha on travel they take bath in the seas and  at  that time the tragedy takes place. One or more die and the same happens very frequently.In most of the cases the victims are engineering students or just after passing the engineering they are in job .

The frequent happenings of such tragic incidents have finished many families since the parents have lost their only child. When the group of young people starts for such excursion tours the parents must take very important role and should make their sons alert in regard to accident of such bath specially who don't know swimming.

The young people should also be very alert. In that case such tragic accident may be avoided.
