Our Bengali Theatre.

At the very outset I must honestly admit that I have no direct or indirect relation with our theatre .However ,I love the same and try to give a short outline of the same and at the same time I should  also honestly admit that I am not at all familiar with the contemporary  theatre.

I don't know whether in any country such huge number of talented actors were born. Girish Ghosh was the father of Bengali theatre and during his time a large number of actors and actresses appeared and contributed significantly for the stage like Dani babu, Amarendra Nath Datta, Ardhendu Sekhar Mustafi ,Noti Binodini etc. After the departure of  Girish Ghosh Sisir Kumar Bhadduri took leading part for the development of the stage at the sacrifice of his service as a college teacher and he is regarded as the father of modern theatre.

During his time a good number of actors joined the stage like Ahindra Chowdhury , Chabi Biswas, Nirmalendu Lahiri , Naresh Mitra , Kanu  Banerjee etc. This theatre is called professional theatre .In 1944 a drama had been staged written by Bijan Bhattacharya  named "NABANNA" based on famine in 1943 in Bengal and the same was staged under the banner of IPTA,the cultural front of CPI and the same was staged in many places and earned immense popularity .

A concept of new theatre came into being named group theatre and after independence a historic incident took place .Maharshi Manoranjan Bhattacharya along with Sambhu Mitra formed a group for Bengali theatre named BAHURUPI  in 1948 and they staged number of  classic theateres including Raktakarabi in 1954 which brought a revolution in Bengali theatre at that time. They also staged various dramas written by Rabindranath Tagore. At that time  many reputed actors joined stage like Utpal Datta ,Ganga pada Bose, Amar Ganguly  ,Kumar Roy ,Debotosh  Ghosh , Ajiesh Banerjee, Manoj Mitra ,Bibhash Chakraborty ,Rudra Prosad Sen Gupta. Though they belonged to different groups they were after good theatres. Out of the above names most of the actors are no more.

The golden era of Bengali theatre possibly is not in existence.

Weak comedy in Bengali films .

Once we were very rich in our comedy acting and we were also proud of the actors. I don't know so many comedy actors appeared in the same language in any country. In our Bengali cinema these actors contributed significantly and enriched the same to a large extent.

Actors like Tulshi Chakraborty ,Nabadeep Halder , Haridhan Mukherjee  , Bhanu Banerjee , Jahar Roy , Shyam Laha , Anup kumar, Rabi Ghosh , Nripati Chatterjee  and Chinmoy Roy etc were outstanding comedians.

From the above names only Chinmoy Roy is alive. Our Bengali film possibly has made a record to make a film in the personal names of two Actors namely Bhanu  Goenda and Jahar Assistant .Once we were so rich in comedy acting today we are so poor.

Unfortunately we are unable to name single comedy actor .It is however ,my personal opinion and hope we shall overcome the crisis in this area very shortly.

Actual Feluda and present Feluda in cinema.

The characterisation of Feluda by Satyajit Roy is one of the historic creations and the same has been immensely popular among all age group both in literature and films.

So far I remember according to Satyajit Roy Feluda  was only twenty six or twenty seven years old while Soumitra Chatterjee started acting as Feluda though he was quite senior but on account of his handsome figure and very smartness he was quite acceptable for the character . So long he acted as Feluda he looked quite normal according to character. The problem started when Soumitra set  aside from this role and the same started by a senior artist  though he acted well he looked aged which perhaps is not according to the original age written by Satyajit Roy. However , this  is  purely my personal opinion as a non technical person.

We and our private hospitals.

I came to know from  a talk show in electronic media that seventy percent people are treated in Govt Hospitals and the rest thirty percent people are treated in private hospitals. Hence  the existence and necessity of the same can not  be denied in view of the fact a large number of people are treated there.

Now the question is who are they ?

Mainly rich  people , upper middle class and middle class people are being treated in private hospitals and sometimes a section of lower middle class people are compelled to go there due to nonavailability of  seats in  GOVT hospitals.

What  are the allegations against private hospitals ?

To ensure profit Maximisation they apply all malpractices like preparation of inflated bills indicating various medicines and tests which were actually not provided or partly provided. Maximum time their inhuman faces are noticed like without considering the financial status they prefer for abnormally high and unbelievable amount of bills and the same results in financial stake of the patient parties.

The most inhuman faces are noticed in case of death when the bodies are not released until the payments are cleared. This attitude proves their inhuman and cruel character.

Another serious charges against them without sufficient reason is that  many times they transfer the  patients to ICU and ventilation only to earn extra money . The last charge is the most dangerous  even after the death of a patient at ventilation they do not declare dead and continue the dead patient at the ventilation and thus prefers abnormally inflated bills and making huge profit by immoral act .

What are the remedies ? Some remedial measures are likely to  be taken shortly. Of course there are some exceptions .All private hospitals are not using such malpractices and let us hope for the best.

Our legal system and harassment.

Unfortunately even after seventy years of independence our legal system contributes the harassments to the maximum extent along with hide expenditure .Our system starts with lower court and ends at Supreme Court. In every phase those who attend for getting  justice they are the victims of endless harassments along with endless expenditure.

There is a proverb  that one generation files a suit and the next  generation will get. the verdict.

The main characteristics of our system that the parties will attend days after days with the hope of hearing their cases but all in vain and the same results in waste of time and money.

In support of the unusual delay the poor infrastructures are being made responsible.
It is very often said in support of the delay that there are shortage of spaces in the courts and vacancies of judges in every court. As a result, few lakhs of pending cases have been lying in Kolkata. High court and the same is alarming.

These arguments for the delay are being expressed for a long long time and the same may not work further. It is high time for taking measure so as to ensure to establish a correct system removing all delays and harassments.

Collection of books and subsequent burden for the same.

Many scholars and book lovers collect huge number of books of different subjects and the same turns into a huge number. They take care for the books. The same are like their children.

Sometimes they face problems in regard to space since enough spaces are needed for keeping such huge books and secondly there are chances of  missing. Many of us are having a tendency to take some books on loan basis but sometimes we forget to return the same. The third problem is very critical. It may  so happen that one or two members may sell some costly books secretly.

The problems start with after the death of the owners of the books. If the children are  reading books  there is no problem.  Otherwise attempts are being taken to donate the same.

But unfortunately many organisations express their unwillingness to accept the same. Recently I have noticed a letter of a son of a famous departed poet stating his disappointments that no organisation is willing to take of huge collection of ten thousand books and he was also worried about his  age.

How to solve the problems?

I think the owners of the books should make arrangements during their lifetime.

Pure drinking water .

We the citizens of the country are very unfortunately deprived of pure drinking water even after the seventy years of independence.

The same is our basic need.   In this context the conditions of the villagers are the worst. In most of the villages the unfortunate villagers use the water of ponds as drinking water where the water is used to clean the utensils ,  wash the clothes and the villagers also take their bath .

From the above it can be appreciated the extent of impurity and due to the same the villagers are being attacked with various diseases like different types of stomach problems ,  jaundice and skin diseases etc .

The villagers are indeed ill fated. The position of township may be slightly better . Even then they also suffer from various ailments. It has been noticed that the most of the people are very conscious about drinking water. Many people use boiled water and some people use purchased  water.

The most significant development now a days is that  in most of the marriage Parties and other occasions bottle water is used.

How the problem is to be solved ? It is great question and It is to be ensured that everyone should get pure drinking water.

To implement the above programme huge money along with the sufficient manpower are essential for the  best interest of the people . It is humble prayer to do the needful.

Kolkata book fair and its importance.

Kolkata book fair possibly started in 1975.Initially It   was started at Maidan and continued there for many years. It can not be denied that the book fare brought a revolution among the Readers ,  publishers and  writers. The fair continued about a fortnight and the gathering of book lovers took a shape of festival. A large number of publishers including big middle and  small opened their stalls with their books. It can be easily understood that in such big book fare huge number of books on different subjects were accumulated under one roof. Here one  purchaser may get his  books according to his choice from any shop.

Such fairs are very useful for all publishers irrespective of any size. All related industries are benefitted like paper printing etc.

For few years the same are held at Bypass. Apart from book stalls plenty of different food stalls and tea stalls are opened.

Hence all sides wait eagerly for the yearly festival. Besides Decorators and Electricians also take a vital role.

This fair is a blessing for the book lovers and the prosperity of the same is expected from year to year.

Change of climate in Bengal.

There are six seasons .One season consists of two months like  summer, Monsoon ,Autumn, pre-winter , winter,Spring and in reality there are three  seasons namely Summer monsoon and winter. The summer and monsoon have been prolonged unusually and the span of winter has been reduced considerably and the same continue maximum for a period of fifteen days and that too not at a  stretch in piecemeal.

The people of Calcutta suffer a lot due to change of climate. The prolong summer and monsoon have caused severe lot of suffering . The nature can't be changed. The change of climate have taken place due to global warming.

We have nothing to do anything right now . The remedies depend upon the leaders of the different countries.

The reduction of importance of the local markets in the city.

There are good number of big middle and small markets in the city. I think apart from big markets the middle and small markets situated in different localities of the city have been facing a serious crisis due to introduction a parallel marketing in vans . All vegetables and fruits are available sufficiently in the vans.

The purchaser instead of going to the markets can easily purchase from the van owners conveniently and the same save time.

Besides the vans may reach at the door of the purchasers .As a result the purchasers enjoy immense advantage from going to the market and purchase the essential goods from different sellers while from one van the requisite items can be purchased and the purchasers can choose more comfortably .

Now a days even fish sellers visit the customers doors.

No doubt this system has brought a revolution for those who are very busy and who are sick and those families consist of very small members.

But at the same time the sellers of the markets are suffering from low sales and the same result in under profit. The solution of the said problem seems to be impossible.

My tribute to Banasree Sengupta.

I have been extremely shocked to  know about the demise of Banasree sengupta. She was a very popular singer and basically she was  a singer of Bengali Adhunik music . She made a significant contribution for the Adhunik music. She had sung a good number of Rabindra Sangeet . Her one song earned immense popularity namely Aj bikaler dake.

I pay my heartfelt tribute to her sacred memory

Old book market at college street.

Once one of the main attractions of college street was shops for old books. I feel the importance of college street for old books is equally important like university of Kolkata and Kolkata Medical college.

While I used to go regularly at college street for attending classes at the university I used to the visit shops of old books very frequently. I felt the shops were like gold mines. I was surprised to see the huge stock of rare books on different subjects.

The feature of the said market is that some books which are out of market and out of print the same may be available. The another feature is the books are fairly cheap. The book lovers and those who are engaged in higher studies to them the old books market like paradise.

It is my ignorance that I do not know the present status of the said market. I found many scholar persons were searching for books and personality I have purchased many books at that time. I pray  for the glory of the said market like before.

Vegetable foods vs. non vegetable foods.

There has been a long debate over vegetable food and non vegetable food regarding which is more  beneficial for health . Possibly no decision could be reached as yet even possibly the doctors have not yet been able to through any light. The supporters of both the camp argue in their favourite  subject.

I feel the number of non vegetarians are much more than the vegetarians. I personally feel non vegetable items are more beneficial for health otherwise in hospitals and nursing homes non vegetable would have not been served. Even doctors prescribe the non vegetable food during illnesses of their patients.

Agreements between Landlord and Tenant for eleven months.

At present a Tenant enters into an agreement for taking monthly rent of the accommodation for a period of eleven months only Means if a Tennant enters into accommodation on  a monthly rent basis he has to vacate the same after eleven months only.

The agreement may be renewed for another period. To me this  eleven months is extremely inadequate. The person who Is having no own accommodation and dependent only on rented house it can be guessed that he has to shift endless time and each time he has to face lot of Harassment along with immense labour and huge expenditure.

To me this eleven months period is truly inhuman and the same may be at least for a period of three years.

It is my humble prayer kindly to make at least for three years with a human face.

Boatmen and their efficiency.

I have no direct experience about the boatmen as I have not got any opportunity  to travel by boat. When they carry passengers and start for the destination their importance starts. In case of the normal weather they remain tension free but if suddenly any Strom starts they are to ensure a safe journey as the  passengers become panic and some of them start crying and at that moment the boatmen remain calm as all the passengers look at the faces of boatmen only.

The experienced boatmen know the techniques of the safe journey and the areas where the safe journey can be operated. The poor boatmen are having extreme professional hazards but possibly we think very little about them.

Traffic police and their unlimited physical strains .

From my childhood I have been observing that a good number of policemen perform their duties on road standing. They discharge the duties with unimaginable physical strain. They cannot divert their mind even for a second only. If they suddenly become unmindful an accident may occur.

Hence they remain very alert throughout the duty period. They perform their duties in the same way in all seasons like Summer Monsoon etc. They face maximum problems during summer. It is very difficult to realises their pains.

Apart from all these most of them suffer from knee pains from the middle age and they take extreme pains at  that time.

It is my humble prayer to look into their problems with a human face and it may be thought that no traffic police will work as traffic work for more than ten years and after that he will work as general police.

Arrangement of lunch by home delivery.

The arrangement of home delivery lunch has certainly brought a revolution in the daily life of middle class and lower middle class of Bengali families. The importance , merits and usefulness are beyond expectations. In  many families there is none to cook due to health problems and many families consist of only old ailing couples and it is impossible for them to prepare food.

Hence only solution home delivery. As a result , in  different localities huge number of home delivery centres have been opened and there are both vegetarian and non vegetarian foods are available. Besides huge number of unemployed youth have got employment directly or indirectly.

This profession has plenty of prospects. Firstly as far as quality is concerned no compromise should be done. The price must be reasonable. The food should be hygienic and  the same must be sent at the customer's house timely and there should be no delay.

The home delivery owners should extend best cooperation to their customers and the customers have also should some commitments and should make their payments timely.

Majority of schools having no Toilet.

I don't remember the exact time yet  it will not be much long past I noticed a very important news that most of the schools situated in the villages and small town are not having any toilet .The news surprised me and disappointed also. I thought how is this possible after seventy years of independence and the same proves how weak our infrastructures are !

The same is our national shame and sin .Only for this reason a large number of students drop out from the schools every year. As a result , without any fault they have been forced to good bye education.

Had this problem not been there we would have definitely got a good number of good students.

It is my humble prayer to the administration to look into the matter urgently and do the needful on war footing.

It is a fact that huge money is required for the most important projects and in that case apart from government money the same may also be raised from  public also as our government is having limited funds.

We may solve the problem with your good wishes. Even the schools are  having  not these problems even the toilets are not maintained at all or partly maintained.

These aspects should be seriously taken into consideration.

Our catering industry.

At present day our catering industry has become our inseparable part.Huge number of  caterers have been formed in big small townships and in all areas these have been formed.

There are different caterers of different sizes and the same depend upon capital.

In the present day our all occasions right from first rice taking ceremonies to marriage reception parties we are after them. They cover the number of invitees from twenty to ten thousand approximately.

It is fact and it is our positive news that the said industry is  an established one and it can't be denied that huge number of unemployed youth have been engaged directly or indirectly in the said trade and the same has taken an important role in solving unemployment problem.

The trade being based on social services the following precautions must be taken into consideration. There should be no compromise in regards to the quality of food and price should be reasonable and all commitments to the customers should be honoured .All sorts of co operations should be extended to the customers.

If the said principles  are observed honestly the prospects of the said trade is highly bright.

Fast Food.

Fast food.

At the very outset it must be admitted that first food has become a part of our daily life . Specially young people can't imagine without the same even for a day . It can't be denied that elderly people also like the same but not like young people.

In every locality number of fast food shops have been opened and they are doing well. It can't be denied a good number of young unemployed youth have engaged themselves in this business.

Only negative side of this food is that physicians are not approving the same as good for health. It is very difficult to make it healthy.

It is my humble request to the Heath department Govt. of West. Bengal to think the matter seriously and offer a way out to make the same nutritious.

Whether Allopathy or Homeopathy.

At the very outset I must categoryally mention that I  have no direct or indirect relations with any branch of medical science. It can't be denied as  a citizen of the country I may try to find out the similarity  and dissimilarity between the two systems.

The father of Homeopath Dr Hanneman himself
was an Alopathy doctor and he noticed the shortcomings of Allopathy and converted to Homeopathy.

He made various experiments and became famous within  a short time.
In our city two famous Allopathy doctors shifted to Homeopathy. The first Dr. Mahendra Lal Sarkar of eighteenth century and Dr. Gyan Mazumder of ninetinh century. In homeopathy the treatment of emergency case are not possible such as accident cases burn cases Surgery cases, Tubercilosis etc.

The treatment of homeopathy is comparatively cheaper and various tastes are not needed. Various chronic diseases work good. It can't be denied most of the people depend on Alopathy. In our country most of the people are poor for them homeopathy treatment may be helpful.

Hence adequate steps may be taken to strengthen Homeopathy.

Ayurveda and it's utility.

Ayurveda is our ancient treatment. Presently the same has been immensely popular and the same is next to Allopathy and Homeopathy .

The medicines of Ayurveda are  prepared mainly by the plantations of trees etc and the same cover almost all types of diseases.

In villages the villagers are quite familiar with the said treatment and they know the names of many plants , herbs and trees  and the names  of diseases for which they are used.

In real life they use the same to a large extent. In urban areas also people have been taking immense interest and in view the fact many stories of this treatment are in vough .The infrastructure of this treatment in township seems to be weak .

To improve the same urgent steps may be taken so that large section of people may take the treatment of this popular system and thus may reduce the pressure of Allopathy.

Mobile sets and accident.

Mobile has brought a revolution in human life. It can't be denied that the introduction of the same have changed  the pattern of our daily and social life to a great extent and the same is the part and parcel of human life and without the same we  cannot think even a single moment.

The usefulness of the same is endless. But  unfortunately we have been excessively depended on the same. It is frequently seen the young people while walking at the main Street talk over phone and another section while crossing rail line similarly talks over mobile and in both the cases accident occurs which claimed many valuable lives.

To avoid further any accident we should try constantly to make the young people conscious and on the other hand the  administration may impose heavy penalty if such misdeeds are done.

I am optimistic to have a better results in this way.

Monday 6 February 2017

No physician is available at night !!

This is one of the burning problems of the city that it is certain that if anybody becomes sick during night no physician will attend him despite best efforts. The most funny thing is that if any patient who has been permanently getting medical assistance from his family physician he will also not be favoured with any medical treatment by his doctor at night.

They even do not hold the phone of any patient at night. It is argued by the physician for non attending at night on the questions of security. This argument is however not tenable in view of the fact that they refuse to visit even those who are very known to them.

The question is what is the solution? In serious cases the patient may be taken to hospital and nursing home but all cases are not serious and the local physicians are enough to those patients who are not serious.

What is the solution of such a social problem?
In every family some medicines must be kept like fever,Acidity,Indigestion,  Diarrhoea ,  vomiting and stomach pain etc.

For the elderly people medicines like Sorbitrate must be kept at home . By this way the problem may be partly faced . It must be remembered that the said medicines should be checked now and then to watch the expiry dates.

Helpless old parents and their NRI sons.

In  Kolkata a large number of old helpless parents live. They are indeed helpless and there is none to look after them. Their families consist of only two old members and most of them are sick. They require regular medical treatment.

Naturally various pathological tests are needed and sometime they are also required to get admitted in Hospitals and Nursing homes.

During illness somebody needs to take responsibility for coordination.Unfortunately in  their cases there is nobody to help. At the same time Apart from medical treatment in families lot of works are to be done like marketing , deposit of electric bills and telephone bills etc. and also in case of domestic works they mainly depend on working helpers.

Most of the helpless couple's are having NRI sons and they are having poor bonding with their families .They however, in most of the cases of course  remit money to their families.

Despite the fact the old parents being helpless in all areas they are financially more or less sound. Their NRI sons come to their parents after a long time for a short period only.

It is a serious problem of our society for plenty of old citizens.
How to solve the serious problems is a great question. I personally feel every such family may appoint one honest and educated youth for undertaking outside services and the same may partly solve unemployment problem also.
