Dr. Mahendra Lal Sarkar , the foremost medical personality of eighteenth century.

Mahendra  Lal Sarkar was born in 1833 in Howrah near Calcutta. He lost his parents at early age. He lost his father at the age of five years and  mother at the age of nine years. His mother shifted to his maternal uncle s house at Nebutala in Calcutta . Subsequently Mahendra lal was brought up by his maternal uncles .He was admitted as a free student in Hare school in 1840 .In 1849 he passed Junior scholarship examination and joined Hindu college where he studied up to 1854.
He was transferred to Calcutta Medical college where he was so esteemed by his professors in the second year of course that he was invited to deliver a series of lectures on optics to his fellow students.

He performed this task honourably .He had a brilliant career at that college, where besides winning several scholarships , he passed the final examination in 1860 with highest honours in medicine and surgery. He obtained his MD degree with special success.
Surprisingly Mahendra lal turned to Homeopathy. In the course of his career he treated several notable persons of those days.including the author Bankim Chandra Chaterjee , Ram Krishna Dev and Maharaja of Tripura.
The Indian Association for the cultivation of science was established in 1876 and  Sarkar was the first Secretary.Sarkar supported higher education for women in nineteenth century when higher education for women was rare . He died in 1904.

Soumitra Chatterjee , A versatile personality.

It is very difficult task to write about Soumitra since lots have  been written about him by  many wise persons while I am a very common man  .
Anyway I will try my best to give an outline about him.
He has various identities , actor , poet ,theatre actor and director , Recitator and editor of little magazine.
He started his film career almost sixty years ago in Apur sansar in 1959.Since then he has been working in Bengali films. He is possibly  the actor of longest period of Bengali film. He has worked in plenty of films with many film makers including satyajit Roy .He is the only actor who worked in highest number of flims of shri Roy.
During his long carieer he worked with many actors and actresses. During our college days there was a common debate who was the better actor between uttam and Soumitra.

Though I have no direct experience Bout acting yet I feel this comparison seems to be meaningless  since the style of acting differs from one  actor to another. Uttamkumar was the victim of premature death. He died only at the age fifty four. He started character role leaving role of romantic hero. He would have presented beautiful character role if he would had been alive and he himself would have got enough scope to experiment about his acting.
Uttam kumar and Soumitra worked together in around five films and undoubtedly both of them acted superb .While Soumitra in his long Careere has acted in plenty of characters and and has got enough scope to experiment. Besides for his acting ability satyajit Roy in his good number of flims took Soumitra and he did very well.
It can't be denied that Soumitra has become now an institution of Bengali film and he genuinely deserves it due to his longest experience and possibly for working with highest  number of film  makers.
He is the only actor who worked in highest number of films of satyajit Roy . He came to personal contact with the legendary theatre personality Sisir Kumar Bhadhuri and also acted with him in theatre .
He has rightly achieved the most prestigious award Dada Saheb Falke award for his excellent contribution in cinema.
In the present day context Soumitra is the most experienced ,senior most actor of Bengali film  industry and close associate of Satyajit Roy and worked all reputed film makers namely Mrinal Sen ,  Tapan Sinha  etc.Considering such an experienced person would have been successful  in direction of film .
Soumitra holds all the factors of success . Firstly he is very handsome with extra ordinary fair complexion. He is very intilligent , smart and his  voice is very good , an
expert in recitation and  his long association with shri Satyajit Roy has benefited him towards acting to a maximum length.
If I am asked during his long career what is the best work?It will be  Certainly the characterisation of Feluda . Ever best acting . After Soumitra some other actors acted in this role but could not go near to him.He was superb.
Similarly it can be said Uttam Kumar was superb to characterisation of Bomkesh. Some Artists have worked in this role but could touch him.
We are fortunate that Soumitra has been still actively working .  I pray for his long  life .

The Poor Rickshaw Poolers !

At this moment the number of rickshaw plies through out our state is not known to me. The number should be few lakhs . I have seen in the paper only in Dakha city few lakhs rickshaw ply. In our state the same having been few lakhs and the exact number of families are dependent on the poolers. Our state being a victim of unemployment the rickshaw is an unofficial industry where such huge number of people are engaged.

Unfortunately the administration doesn't seem to have taken any proper steps for the upliftment  of such huge number of people. Two types of Rickshaw poolers are found .
The first category are the owners of the Rickshaw and they ply themselves only  while the second category of poolers have to pay a reasonable hire charges  to the rickshaw owners. At present day rickshaw poolers are in immense crisis since they are in tremendous competition with the open riksha where few people may travel sitting in the rickshaw van.
This rickshaws Is comfortable for short distance and also very comfortable for sick and elderly people.
The present time is of speed only . A large number of people including young people do not prefer this mode of transport.
The rickshaw pullers suffer a lot during summer and monsoon. They require huge food.Unfortunately they don't get requisite food and nutrition. As a result, they are attacked with T.B. and their average lives are very short.

Newspaper and Hawkers.

We expect newspaper to reach our homes early morning before tea time so that reading newspaper and taking tea may continue simantaniously  . It is a great pleasure for everyone to read newspaper and take tea. If the newspaper reaches before taking tea there is no problem but unfortunately if the paper reaches after taking tea the hawker has to digest rebuke. We never think the struggling of the hawkers for reaching the papers timely. If we go into the details of the struggling life of the hawkers we may be bit sympathetic towards them.

The hawkers though human being but in reality they lead an inhuman life. Their day starts at three am when we are in sound sleep. After completing all works they return home at about three pm. After taking lunch they take rest at about four. This is more or less their daily routine.
They enjoy holiday on an average five to six only in a year. From this it can be guessed the inhuman and struggling life. They have no monsoon  cyclone, flood, winter, illness,  illness of any member of the family, any family festival and even death of any family member will not stop their daily attendance.
Despite so many hurdles they earn some commission only.If we think about their struggling we may be a bit sympathetic towards them and condone the delay if any in distribution of paper.
the deplorable condition of the hawkers came to my notice during my childhood.
It is my humble request to all appropriate authorities kindly to look into the struggle of the hawkers and  discuss the matter with  appropriate authorities  to arrange either higher commissions or to arrange for  some more holidays.
It is very painful  and surprising that those who are carrying the news and reaching the same to  crores  of readers . However , nobody is  there to speak a single line in favour of the hawkers.
This is the irony of fate .
This system has been continuing from before independence. Those who are readers of newspaper or non readers of newspaper , nobody has minimum time to think for them.No political party has since spent a single word for these unfortunate hawkers.
What are the remedies?  It is my humble prayer to all appropriate authorities kindly to examine their demands on war footing basis and come to a permanent solution in regard to the demand for minimum human life they lead.  Why they will not be paid fixed salary? Group insurance, Provident fund,Esi  benefit may be introduced

Outstanding Talented Harinath De .

Harinath De was a surprisingly talented person. I personally feel Shri De was one of the most talented persons of his time. We are very unfortunate for having lost him only at the age of thirty four years. He was born in 1877 in  North 24Porganas. He studied in presidency college , Kolkata and Cambridge.

He was expert in thirty four languages such as Chinese,Tibetan,Pali,Sanskrit,Persian,Arabic,English,Greek, and Latin etc.He was M.A. in fourteen subjects . He was the first Indian Education Service officer among Indians . He was professor of English of Dhaka university and of presidency college, Kolkata. He was appointed as the first lecturer of the newly created department of linguistics of Calcutta university in 1907.He became the first Indian  Librarian of National library from 1907 to 1911.

It was  extremely unfortunate that Harinath was the victim of premature death. His death caused sever loss of Bengali literature and history.Another disappointing and surprising matter we have totally forgotten him . I personally feel only a few number of persons know his name. Whereas there is a doubt during last hundred years whether such talented Bengali was born.I pay my heartfelt regards to him.

Our religion Hinduism and some questions.

At the very outset I should honestly admit that I am   neither a religious person nor deal with any religious matters.

Only as an observer a question has been  raised in my mind and I would pray to scholar persons kindly to reply my question .I have seen almost all persons pray to God or worship with a view to get something like recovery from illness, for getting a job, marriage of the children  , win in a legal case  ,for earning profit in a business ,  for giving birth to a baby, for promotion in service place etc.

It may be appreciated that every time worship or prayer is being done only to get something. In every prayer some interest is involved. Whenever any puja is conducted where ever the place , the main object is to get something. When the disciples worship their gurus that is  also for getting something.  Besides there is a very popular custom named Mannat where if the demand  is met something will be given to God. What will be the explanation of  Mannat system.

From the above instances  our religious structure may be termed that it is based on give and take policy. While Ramakrishna Dev repeatedly advised that the love of God should be purely without any interest. As for example while Narendranath was in extreme financial crisis Ramakrishna Dev advised him to pray to Maa Kali for a job. Narendranath despite third attempt could not approach for a job.

This is the spirit of our religion while we experience the opposite trend everywhere. The basic of our religion may kindly be explained by the religious scholars.

Inhuman life of private transport employees.

I shall try  my best to  present the  life  style of our  countless private transport employees. I don't know the exact number of such employees in Bengal, mainly I have considered the Drivers , Conductors and helpers of private and minibuses. The number of such employees approximately will exceed one lakh. One thing I should categorically mention that I have not seen the day to day life of such huge number of people from close contact ,I have seen from distance and have been writing mainly on imagination.

Their days start  at about three while we are under sound sleep .They are to report for duty by four since the first   trip starts At about five and the last trip ends at about  ten . After that cash has to be deposited to the owner of the buses with the accounts and they also would take their remuneration .

The workers are to discharge duties about seventeen hours at a stretch from morning five to night ten. The nature of duty involved is extremely   hard and extreme pressure falls on throat. The Conductors and the helpers are to shout whole day. The most surprising and unbelievable thing is that despite long seventeen hours duty they don't get possibly any lunch break. How do they take their lanch? While  waiting at terminus they take their lanch at the minimum time. They have no scope of taking bath . It can be appreciated from this the extent of inhuman life they are to pass   . Considering such hard duties in most cases they can not discharge duties more than three days in a week .

As regards financial aspects too the Conductors don't get any salary instead they get commission on sales only.

It has been noticed in most of the cases that they are attacked with major diseases following excessive    torturer on health and they can't go for medical treatment and they are the victims of short life.

In working place they have no security ,  they have no provident fund facilities. It is unimaginable that they don't get a single  paise from their employers in case of serious illness, termination of service or leaving service or death.

It is unbelievable that even after the expiry of long seven decades the condition of huge section of workers are beyond imagination and the same are against humanity, civilisation and the same may be termed as barbaric. The same does not show any indication of slightest improvement.

Dr Gayan Mazumder a surprise of medical science.

Dr Gayan Mazumder was originally named as Dr Gayanendra  Narayan Mazumder. However, he was popularly known as Dr Gayan Mazumder. He was an exceptionally meritorious student.

He was admitted  for his MB degree after passing MSc examination while ISC was enough for the same. After passing MB he obtained his MD degree . After that he started for England for higher studies. Surprisingly and unbelievably he passed both the degrees of medicine and surgery means MRCP and FRCS and returned to the country and he surprisingly started practising homeopathy despite having both the degrees of medicine and surgery and the most important thing that he was very successful in homeopathy and did many miracles and he was number one of Homeopathy . He along with his glorious practice he also joined politics and was elected in assembly from Balligunj constituency in 1957 supported by the CPI. Indeed  he was a person of extreme calibre otherwise it would have been impossible to practice homeopathy.Unfortunately we have forgotten about his extreme calibre.

I personally pay my heartfelt regards for his magnificent contributions for medical science.

Handwriting of the Physicians (Doctors).

We have many complaints against the Doctors, most of them seem to be genuine but one  important area is fortunately or unfortunately left and the area being very important one namely bad handwriting of the Doctors, of course There are exceptions of the bad handwriting. The handwriting of some doctors are very clean and beautiful. In such cases no problem arises. There is a joke of a  bad  bad handwriting, one newly married Doctor had written a letter from very far place to his wife and his newly married wife despite vigorous exercise could not read even a single line and she expressed the incident to one of her friends and she laughed and advised her to go to one compounder who will be able to read.

Now the question is what are the problems may arise for the bad handwriting ?

Firstly the patient parties may have to go from this shop to that shop , the second being  very risky the Salesmen being unable to read the names of the medicines and serve wrong medicines and taking the same even the patient may die.

In a newspaper I saw that in our country fifty thousand men  die due to wrong medicine, It was also  noticed that Supreme court has  ordered that  the names of the medicines should be written distinctly

It is the funniest thing and the same is surprising too that the handwriting of the majority of the Doctors are extremely bad and illegible and the Doctors should take the matter seriously since the lives of many people are involved. Apart from this another  important area is  the possibility of taking wrong dose by the patients for being unable to read the same.  Doctors association may play an important role here . They may arrange seminar and make conscious to this effect. This is matter of great regret only for bad handwriting of the Doctors so many lives are sacrificed every year.
At the time of university convocation when the Doctors assemble there to collect their degree the university may alert them to be careful about handwriting so as to save good many lives.

Glorious Mukherjee family of Kolkata.

We are fortunate that at least we have been able to see one Mukherjee  namely Respected Chittotosh  Mukherjee . I don't know whether there had been any discussion on Mukherjee family . I may kindly be excused if there is any mistake from my part in highlighting the glory of Mukherjee family. Actually I'm too small for this work only based on good wishes I have started. this work.

Actually I felt long past that the glory and magnificent contributions in the field of education , law and literature made by this Family should be widely circulated in order to reach the glory to those people who are not aware of the same. I don't know whether any other family of Bengal has produced three Chief Justice of High court  and three vice Chancellor of  university. This is Mukherjee family who did this and to me this is rarest to the rare credit and this is impossible to break this glorious record . Now let's us discuss in details . The names of the three vice Chancellor of Calcutta university Sir Ashutosh  Mukherjee, Rama prosad Mukherjee and Shyma prosad Mukherjee.

Now let us discuss the Calcutta High court and three Chief Justice  Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee. Rama prosad Mukherjee and Chittotosh Mukherjee. Apart from this in one building three colleges are named by three members of the same family.
Ashutosh collage, Jogomaya Debi collage and Shyma prosad collage. Two important roads of the city are named by two members of the same family. Ashutosh Mukherjee road and Shyma prosad Mukherjee road. Another member who earned immense popularity and fame by writing traveling experience. Uma prosad Mukherjee. I pay my deepest regards and respect to this outstanding family.

Bharat Ratna Dr Bidhan Chandra

Bharat Ratna Dr Bidhan  Chandra Dr.Bidhanchandra Ray had two identities, one as physician and the other is politician and quite naturally a question arises whether as a physician or as a politician he was great. To me he should be regarded as an administrator as in view of the fact he took his office as chief minister of West Bengal in 1948 and continued the same till 1962. Now the question may reasonably arise whether he was a great administrator or a good physician. It is extremely difficult to reply to this question since In Both the  cases he was a masterpiece. As a doctor number of stories have been heard  it must be said he was an exceptionally meritorious student. There was a story which says he was interested for engineering studies and accordingly applied for both medical and engineering for medical college and  Shibpur  Engineering college , after waiting for quite some time for a reply from Shibpur Engineering college and no reply having been received being disappointed he was admitted in medical college and after returning home he came to know that the letter from Engineering college selecting him had been received. His family had not capacity to admit in Engineering college once being admitted in medical college. If he had received the letter from Engineering college few hours ago he would have been admitted there in that case we would have not received a world famous doctor in stead we would have received an engineer. As a

token of his brilliance he completed FRCS and MRCP in a year and the same way very tough  . As regards his medical profession  a good number of stories had been in vogue and his clinical eyes  were  very powerful. He earned the maximum popularity as a doctor. At that time he was the last resort of medical treatment  when other doctors failed to detect diseases the patients were taken  to Dr Ray . Let us discuss his performance as Administrator. He was the second chief minister of West Bengal . At the time of taking over our state was in deep cricis due to partition and the state was in a cute crisis due to the pressure of refugee and food crisis. He with his strong hands had taken the responsibility and discharged the same with great success. He completed many projects. He  estatablished State  Transport corporation  He took initiative in forming Haringhata milkproject    He took initiative for Durgapiur , Bidhanagar
He took for Durgapiur Steele plant .His another dream was Kalyani . Apart from this he established another two township viz Ashoknagar and Habra He was awarded the highest civil award Bharat Ratna in 1961, He was the most successful Chief minister of fourteen years on the other hand a physician of magnificent calibre having highest degree of both medicine and surgery. He was really a surprising personality who died fifty four years back while it is yet to be settled whether he was a great physician or a great administrator, it suggests that how great he was in both the cases. He also made a record in respect of his death as the same occurred in his eightieth birthday. He  was truly an exceptional person in all respects.

A  tribute to Pankaj Roy

I think It will be not wrong if I say that We have totally forgotten him. Indeed it is a very unfortunate thing. Of course it is not only in respect of Pankaj Roy the same are applicable in respect of all renowned Bengalis.

While it is felt only on that day shri Roy was a very active member of the selection committee of BCCI , Pankaj Roy seems to be first  player from Kolkata who played in Indian national cricket team.

He was a right handed opening Batsman .He and vino Mankar had record  of 413runs against New Zealand and the same remained fifty two years. He  was also a right handed medium first bowler.

He played in fourty six test matches. He received padyasri  award .In his family 2 other members viz his son Pranab Roy and nephew Ambar Roy also played in Test Cricket . Therefore , it is a rare incident that 3 members from the same family played in the National Cricket Team.

He died in 2001.During his career media was very weak in comparison to present day . At that time media means only newspaper and Radio.and  the same supported Pankaj Roy.of course at that time population was very less in comparison to present day.  Pankaj Roy undoubtedly was very competent player and as a selector hr was also competent.

it is my humble submission to alla appropriate authority to kindly consider whether any permanent memory can be set up in His name.

A tribute to Suchitra Sen

In Bengali film industry a good number of reputed actresses have worked with high reputation  but none could reach the height of Suchitra Sen. She reached a legendary height during her life time.  The experts of Bengali film industry may review about her acting but it can't be denied in any way that she  always occupied the position of number one.

Her debut was in 1952 and retired in 1979. During her career she Worked opposite to Bikash  Roy, Anil chatterjee , Soumitra Chattererjee, Ashoke Kumar ,Basanta Chowdhury etc . Apart from this she Worked in her majority of pictures with Uttamkuar and the same has become a history.I feel in Bengali films industry since inception no other pair have enjoyed such popularity. She also worked in Hindi film like Uttar falguni , Adhi ,Devdas etc. She was awarded for her "Sat pake Badha" copy by Russia .She also got Padmashree and Bangabibhushan.

Her premature depart from Bengali flims has caused severe loss .
As a person she was out and out dignified. She was comfortable in her limited small circle only. The most surprising thing despite her tremendous popularity is She totally isolated herself from public life and completely avoided all film oriented programmes and all social programmes.

Practically She completely set aside herself from all occasions and even didn't meet other than her listed names and she maintained it from her retirement to till her death.

It  is very difficult to set aside the glamour world while she did it very casually. It suggests how great she was. The death of her brought a permanent gap of a great personality.

Local trains and Hawkers.

Local trains without Hawkers is unimaginable. Hawkers are inseparable part of the local trains.Passengers of both classes those who regularly travel by local train and those who travel occasionally experience about the hawkers . The most surprising thing starting from mixed muri to garments are available at the local train just like departmental store.PersonallyI had the experience to travel regularly at  Howrah Bardwan  chord line for four years.

I deeply observed their activities. It is presumed that the hawkersckers were less educated while their efficiency in marketing their saleable items are unbelievable. They can continuously speak with good Bengali. It's another astonishing thing  that all items are available like fruits, tea, sweets, stationary items, Garments, Herbal medicine, Books etc.

Another surprising thing that they change the compartments in a running condition at the cost of their lives and at any moment accident may happen. I don't know the exact number of hawkers working in Bengal in train yet I can guess the number must be large. It means those number of families are dependent on the working of Hawkers. Ours is a vast country and the same is distributed with unemployment problem while it can be guessed that huge number of people are engaged in all India basis .

Here Railway ministry may play an important role in regard to the demand of hawkers for security and their right to work with full of security.I am not aware of the fact that the role played if any by the Railway. It is my humble submission to respond to the demand of hawkers unions. The hawkers may look into the matter of their security seriously specially two  items firstly they  pick up running train with their selling items and they move from one compartment to another in a running condition. The same may cause serious accident at any moment.

I think possibly identity cards have been issued to the hawkers who have met All the parameters for getting the identity card which is a token of legal recognition and the same will check unauthorized hawkers.

Kolkata and Street Dogs

Kolkata and street dogs      This is perhaps one of the most important areas of Kolkata city , however the same is a neglected part all along and no importance is given to this problem.

May  be there are thousand of problematic areas where the same does not attract any importance. Let us discuss the burning problem at length.
I don't know how many Street dogs are in Kolkata , may be more than lakh . They move freely while the passers-by who move on foot are also helpless.

There is no body to think for large sections of people.Apart from the said passers by of huge number also a large section of minor boys and girls walk.
All of them are afraid of biting and if unfortunately the same occurs only the victim could realise  the  harassment he has to suffer. Nobody and no organisation will come forward for the medical treatment of the victim. Besides the most alarming thing the requisite  injections most of the time are not available. The hospitals are of tremendous rush of the similar patients and the patients face  unbelievable harassment .The same appears to be a curse. So far I know there is a department in Kolkata municipal corporation to catch the street dogs but their infrastructure is very poor. Practically the existence of the said department is not felt .

Besides another problem is that various animal welfare organisations are severely against in catching the dogs. As a result years after years no action is taken from any corner ,as a result the number of dogs increase tremendously.

I don't know whether in any  metropolitan city of the world the street dogs at all can move. How to solve the most neglected burning problem. There is a proverb while there is a will there is a way.
The kMC  with their full strength can strengthen their infrastructure to a maximum length without any compromise and also negotiate with the animal welfare organisations and come to a amicable settlement so as to save the lives of crore of citizens and also to save them from immense harassment in case of biting .

It is my humble prayer to all appropriate authorities to kindly look into the matter with utmost importance and priority and do the needful without any further delay and to open a separate department for this purpose if the same is not in existence.

A tribute to Mansoor Ali khan Pataudi

I don't know how to start with the great person whether as a     person or as a cricketer.I don't know out of the two which was great. He was born in a nabab family and subsequently he himself became nabab . He was  the symbol of sofistication. He was educated at Oxford university of  Britain.

He married the beauty queen of Bombay Mumbai film Industry , Sharmila Tagore. His son saif Ali khan , a film hero of Mumbai film Industry. He started his cricket carrier as a batsman of the national cricket team and subsequently he became the captain of the team.He was an excellent stylish batsman.Unfortunately  in England he met with a car accident but fortunately he survived but at the cost of one eye.He  had an exceptional strength of mind and returned to  cricket ground and started his second innings with one eye. He indeed  was

surprised person, with one eye he played his normal game and that too  international cricket, it is unbelievable today. He was an outstanding fielder and he could maintain his standard. He played in fourty six test matches. It Is fact during his time media was not like present day ,at that time media means only papers and Radio
Yet  he did not get media support to that extent which he deserved. Even after retirement he was rarely found in connection with the cricket activities. In the present day context he got nothing as publicity is concerned.
I personally feel that the fact of his playing in national team with one eye should be widely circulated so that those who are having physical problems can be encouraged and enjoy successful carrier . It is my humble submission to the appropriate authority to kindly consider the matter seriously and act accordingly. I may propose in this connection kindly to consider to include his life struggle in the field in the school syllabus.

Indian cricket prior to Sourav

A campaign has been going on for a long time very cleverly that India has been playing real  international cricket from Sourav regime. Prior  to Sourav Indian cricket was insignificant. Cricket was very soft and the same was free from all aggression. This unfortunate effort has been successful to a large extent. At the same time it is a gross injustice for the Indian Cricket as well as a conscious effort to underrate the long history and  also large number of cricketers.Endless  Star cricketers played in the national , team like vijay Marchent, vijay Hazare, Vizoy Manzrekar , Lala Amarnath, vinu Mankar , pali umrigarh , Nari contractor, Pataudi nabab , M,L Jayshima, Pankaj Roy Chandu Bordey , SunilGavaskar Salim Durani Faruk Engineer, Ajit Wadekar  Ramchand, Ram  a kanta Desai, Bisan sing "Bedi Ms prasanna, Chandrasekhar , Dilip Vensarkar, Kapildev,Sayad kirmani , Subhash Gupte,G undappa Biswanath etc.

Apart from these gems Many gems played in Indian team. A plan campaign has been going that only Sourav was for victory and could motivate team mates . Sourav was the first captain who  gave leadership from the front. An unfortunate game had been constantly played to totally ignore the magnificent contributions by unlimited stars. This is planned conspiracy and the same is nothing but an attempt to ignore them as to paint black the glorious past .

I don't know whether in any other country so many stars were born like us.
Our cricket heritage seems to be enough rich and the campaigns seem to be comedy materials that previously no captain could  motivate, could not give captaincy from the front, could not play aggressive. How funny during long journey no captain was produced who could do like Ganguly.History will prove.
The most surprising and painful matter to me that there are so many cricket personalities including Gavaskar and all are  silent and it is very difficult to accept that the cricket personalities are unable to understand the conspiracy to reject the existence of the glorious past.

Children without childhood

I utterly feel for the children of the present time and  also of the past. They enjoy their childhood for a maximum period of three years. They are  admitted in schools between the age of two and half years to three years.

The moment they are admitted in schools their childhood comes to an end. Their studies start with number of books and copies. Their school bags turn into high weight carrying number of books and copies , water bottle and tiffin box. The bags become so weighty   that the children can not carry.Besides they have to prepare their home tasks.

After attaining slightly elderly they are to appear weekly tests .As a result of unprecedented load at so early age they loose everything in regard to games and other curricular activities. They are not allowed to meet the guests, to watch TV programmes and gossip with the other members of the families.

They are only after books. The parents are keen that their children should be first for every examination. Not only this their attendance are restricted to marriage party and also other occasions. The parents teach them and they place demand for being first in all examinations. The children are tired of carrying orders at home and at the schools. Their lives truly become mechanical.
From the very initial days of school the guardians start in placing their demand that the boy is required to be a Doctor or an Engineer or IAS or IPS  . Hence the mental pressure starts at a very early age in regard to fulfill the ambitions of the parents in regard to the carrier leaving aside all joys and other demands of the childhood. Apart from the education the parents have also demand for music, painting, cricket etc. One day the childhood will be over after strict following daily routines. It is my humble submission to the Government and Scholarly persons kindly to look into the matter seriously and suggest some remedial measures to protect the huge number of future citizens from an  atmosphere of terror.

Kolkata and Auto Transport.

Kolkata is now part and parcel of Auto Transport.Huge number of people are partly dependent on Auto and a large number of people are wholly dependent on the same as they do not avail any other mode of transport.

The advantages of Auto :-
The main advantage is that one can reach from one place to another very fast .Huge number of Autos  ply in Kolkata and as a result the same have provided for direct and indirect employment.
It can ply within a  very short space and can go through lanes in case of jams . One can go to distant places within a very short time only by changing Autos. These are all advantages.

Now we may  discuss the disadvantages.
The first and foremost disadvantage is that they don't care of any rule and discipline. As a result, much number of passengers avail for which the carrying capacity exceeds  and the same may face accidents. The passengers can't take any luggage. There is no norms of fixing of fair and they fix fair arbitrarily. Most of the drivers behave ruthless with the passengers. As a result law and order situation of different places are affected.
Finally it may be said that the most organised and powerful mode of transport of Kolkata consider themselves like almighty, they are above passengers, above administration, above police, above government , above all political parties.
Under this situation the government only can control Auto imperialism with strict attitude and should not compromise with any illegal demand of the Autos and the primary task  is to bring them within the frame of rules and laws.We may hope for the best.

Sourav Ganguly and his unusual rating by the fans.

At the very outset I should honestly admit that  I am in no way against Mr.Ganguly and even if I am against him it would be impossible for me to touch him as his height is beyond my touch.

Since his debut in the international cricket he has been enjoying an unprecedented support of the Bengali media and all cricket loving people of Bengal. They are considered to be the blind fan of Ganguly. They don't believe in any reasonings ,any logic and they are simply blind about him. To them Ganguly is all time best left handed batsman of the world , all time best all-rounder of the world , all time best captain of the world . If it's also said that he is the first captain who has inspired this team mates for victory, it means that the captains prior to him did not put any effort for victory. It is also said that he was the first captain to be very aggressive it means that other captains were defensive and coward.
The earlier captains were vinu Mankad , Ramchand , Nari contractor, Pali Umrigarh , Pataudi Nabab etc, Kapil Dev, Chandu Borde. They were all stalwart cricketers and captains. In order to praise

Ganguly We have no right to under rate the great cricketers who gave their best for the country.Secondly the extent of blindness will prove from the following examples. If he was bold it was told that it was a no ball.If it was an lbw  it was said it was a wrong decision of the umpire and if he was caught out it was believed that the bat did not connect the ball.

Are these not the examples of fanaticism. After his retirement from all cricket formats he is regarded as the best commentator and the best cricket administrator of the world. In Bengal all pujas are held at a particular time while "Ganguly puja" is held through out the year.

He is believed to be the best anchor of the world. I don't know what are the areas still left where he is the best . Whatever he touches may be turned into gold.

Personally I believe in reasonings and logic and do not support personality cart .
To me he is undoubtedly a good cricketer and also a captain. At the same time it can not be perhaps denied that plenty of cricketers who played in our national team they were not less than that of Ganguly. So far I know no other state is so much after any player. This should be the normal attitude from person to government.

Chattererjee Trio of Bengali film industry.

Three chattererjees have been taking key role in Bengali films for about last seventy years. The Chattererjees are Uttamkuar chattererjee,Soumitra Chattererjee and Prasenjit Chattererjee. Apart from these chatterjees   a good number of actors worked as hero , they were no doubt very competent actors but their career as hero were not so prolong like Chattererjees.
Prior to Uttamkuar Durgadas Bandapadhya and Pramathesh Barua were very popular heros .

Our discussion will restrict to the three Chattererjees only.

Uttamkuar.

Uttamkuar seems to be the most colourful actor of Bengali film. During his career of three decades he became the authority of Bengali films. During initial days he had passed some bad time for a short period but from "Bosu paribar" to the last day of his life he had not to look behind. He was truly  undeclared monarch of Bengali films.
He enjoyed through out his career unprecedented popularity.

He was a devotee  of acting. He seems to have made various experiments about acting. I had an excellent opportunity to watch his outdoor shooting at road side and I was simply astonished to see his dedication. He was alone preparing before shooting and he was looking absolutely a different person and as if he had no sense and became a part of the character.
I believe such things are rarely found in an actor.Besides he is a self made actor and he did not get any formal education of acting. His premature death has caused tremendous loss to Bengali Bengali flims.

  Soumitra chattererjee.

After Uttamkuar he is the most important actor. So far I remember his debut  was in 1959 in "Apur sansar "  of Satyajit Roy .He is the most fortunate actor . He has worked with Satyajit Roy for his highest number of Bengali films. He is a powerful actor besides he was enough fortunate to get guidance from Satyajit Ray. His career has been possibly the longest about sixty years and naturally he has worked in huge number of films.

He is a very powerful and educated actor. His pronouncation is very good. He is also very good in recitation. He is also a good actor of stage.

     Prasenjit Chattererjee.

Prasenjit Chattererjee first appeared in 1967 in Bengali film as a child artist. He seems to have continuously in the Bengali films for more than three decades. After Uttamkuar and Soumitra  he is the third chattererjee who has got success and has been working with authority for a long time. To me so far his acting is concerned he is far behind from the two other senior chattererjees. To me  not only in acting but also figure and appearance is concerned junior most chattererjee is far behind.

Prasenjit has worked in plenty of films of which most of the films could not  achieve desired results. He is however reported to have worked very nice in number of his late films. I watched one of the same named Moner Manush and more or less he worked good. However he is working with authority.
Incidentally it may be mentioned that he has been acting on small screen in the character of Uttamkuar and unfortunately the same has disappointed me . To me his pronouncation seems to be not clear and style of speaking needs more attention.
Of course this is purely my personal opinion. Besides I have no background of acting.

Oppression by school teachers

Oppression by the school teachers . The very caption suggests that the school teachers are primarily responsible for teaching and maintenance of discipline but unfortunately apart from the said duties very frequently they are found to conduct severe oppression on the students. As a result many students die and many get  injured and taken to hospitals,Many students permanently become handicapped.

Previously such news disappointed us very much. Presently the same do not touch us as we have become familiar with these incidents .ln view of the fact the happing of the same having been enhanced considerably
there have been no hue and cry from any corner.

Now let's discuss about the so called teachers. They are totally misfit for this profession. Another important point haunts me whether these so called teachers can earn any prestige from any corner of the society. They can earn only hatred from the society.

The most surprising thing that even after criminal act they are not punished  by the school authority.I don't know whether there is any provision for punishment in such cases.

Immediately government may think to ban physical assault and in case of violation there should be provision of severe punishment for the teachers and all the teachers should be circulated indicating the provisions if they act cruelly on the students.

Shri Ramakrishna Dev

Shri Ramakrishna Dev.  Lots have been discussed and written about Ramakrishna Dev. I am not well conversant with him. I have no hesitation in admitting to the fact that I have no knowledge  about this great man . I have read his some stray writings about Him. He is simply a surprising person to me. He had no formal education. Possibly he completed his primary education in his village. It is unbelievable almost an illiterate person like him entered into debate on many subjects with Swamiji ,Keshab Chandra Sen   , Iswar Chandra vidyasagar , Girish Chandra Ghosh etc. It is heard he used to discuss with them regularly about our religious beliefs and

practices and various theoretical matters. His another brilliant work kathamrita  where he taught very difficult matters  in a very simple way with the help of examples. It is said he had a strong common sense along with strong observation power .
To me along with these qualities He also had vast knowledge , otherwise it would have been impossible. About him this particular area haunts me in view of the fact how is it possible to deal so many subjects and to  discuss different subjects with the scholarly persons.
It is surprising that he had no relation with books and he was rarely found reading. To me this subject may be taken for research work. Many scholars  did not have any formal education but they educated themselves by their hard labour and determination but the same is not applicable for Ramakrishna Dev, then what is the magic, only scholar persons can throw light on the matter.

Requirements of more Government hospitals in Kolkata .

In Kolkata we are having mainly five major Govt.Hospitals viz. P.G.hospital, Medical college hospital, NilRatan sarkar medical college hospital, R,G. Kar medical college hospital,National medical college hospital. In Government hospitals mainly poor and lower middle class people go for treatment.Apart from Kolkata huge numbers of patients come from the district hospitals as referred by them . As a result  these hospitals have to take huge load.
The total number of beds  available in these hospitals and the average requirements of beds are much on the higher side.

As a result of excessive patients  admitted  against available beds the situations which arise are against humanity and civilisation.
Many times it is found two patients are lying in a single bed. This is not only against civilisation but also unhygienic. Besides the most surprising thing sometimes a good number of patients take their beds at the floor  . It causes plinfection. Apart from these the regular system comes to collapse due to shortage of toilets , Doctors , Nursing staff  , Supporting staff.  How treatment can be available under these circumstances?

The patients therefore are left to the luck only for their recovery or survival.Even for taking the worst treatment huge number of patients and their families have to face unbelievable harrousments everyday for getting admitted in a government hospital.
We  always criticise the government hospitals for dirty atmosphere and incompetent medical treatment , while criticising the tremendous load they take despite poor infrastructure must be taken into consideration.

What is the solution? At least three hospitals may be set up in Kolkata. At the same time it  must be taken in to  consideration that sufficient land will be required for the hospitals and it is doubtful such huge land whether available and huge investment are required. The funding problem how to be met may also be thought.

The performance of our Parliament

The performance of our Parliament.
After Independence we adopted Parliamentary democracy in our country and the same is One of the best systems for the governance of our country.
It may be said  that our Parliament has sufficiently elder now and since Independence during this long time our Parliament has not faced any threat.Natuarally very justified question will arise about the performance of the Parliament. During the long journey  it is obvious that sometimes it will function very good and sometimes not up to the mark. Once upon a time a good number of outstanding parliamentarians worked like Hirendra   Nath Mukherjee, Indrajit Gupta, Tridib chowdhuryv, chitta Bose , Shyma prasad Mukherjee, Humaun Kavir,  Samar Guha,Somenath chattererjee,Rammanahar Lohia,Atal Bihari Bajpai etc . They took Parliamentary work very seriously. They were very good orators and wise. Hence their debate were of high standard and the same attracted the educated people of the country. Besides jawharlal Nehru ,Indira Gandhi , Nara Sinha  Rao etc were good parliamentarians . Apart from these many good parliamentarians worked maintaining a high standard . For this they used to work hard. Many parliamentarians of the opposition parties used to deliver wonderful  lectures with argument and data and the same attracted the whole house including the ruling party. Unfortunately that era is probably lost for ever. Our country seems to be  the biggest Parliamentary country while the standard of our Parliament has been deteriorating continuously.
The suspension of business for unlimited period has become a regular practice ,as a result the working hours have been reducing considerably. It is very unfortunate that only a limited number of members take part in the debate.only a small number of good speeches can be heard. It is a matter of great regret that large number of members during their tenure do not utter a single word. They regularly attend the session and leave for home.

It is a matter of great concern that huge expenditure are incurred for running the Parliament while the sleeping members are only after their salaries and perquisites.  It is to be reviewed the total number of sleeping members and to see whether their performances can be improved.

Only area are left to spend the fund Of Mp land. It is doubtful in this area also how far they are successful.

The way the business of our Parliament are going there is no doubt that the situation is alarming specially the large suspension of work has been creating so many problems specially non passing of urgent bills . This situation has been continuing for many years and despite the various appeals from different corners  no change appears to have noticed.

The problem  may be solved only by the major parties following constant discussion.

Theft of Noble Prize

Theft of noble.  It is needless to mention the Bengali emotion about Rabindra Nath. Rabindra Nath  was not only of his family but also of every Bengali family.Surprisingly he expired long seventy five years back yet he seems to be alive in his vast work and the same are still a part of our daily life.

The noble prize was the pride of Bengali and indeed the property of Bengali culture and heritage. It was retained at the biswavarati and obviously surrounded by Security.

Surprisingly despite sufficient security arrangements the precious assets of all people of Bengal  irrespective of mother tongue  had been stolen.More surprisingly after the passage of long one decade neither the noble has been recovered nor the culprits have been arrested.

More so the investigation is being carried out by the most reputed central agency . It is also heard that the central agency has expressed their inability in achieving any success in this case. If It's so some questions obviously arise.

Firstly  how the noble was theft in the presence of large number of security. Secondly despite a long decade having been taken no solution could be achieved. It suggests the weakness of our investigation system and the same is shameful for our country. The state government is reported to have expressed interest to carry out this investigation.
Only God can do something.

Pronunciations of the contemporary actors

Pronouncation of the contemporary actors.  At the very outset I must honestly admit that I have never acted nor have any technical knowledge about acting . Still purely as a spectator it is my observation that most of the present day actors are not careful about pronunciation and most of the actors' pronunciations are not clear and the same can't be heard distinctly many times.

Legendary theatre personality Sambhu Mitra has discussed the subject in detail and his unbelievable experience . He started his rewaj  only at the age of fourteen and the same continued up to his thirty years ,on an average four to six hours a day. It is needless to mention that this hard labour presented him an excellent voice.

To me his voice was the best. So far I have read Sisir Kumar Bhaduri and Ardhendu  sekhar Mustafi were of outstanding voices. l had no opportunity to listen to them. Hence Sambhu Mitra is the best in this regard.

It is very unfortunate that many contemporary film personalities' pronuncations are not clear and the same is mixed. I hope the actors will take care of the subject.

Indian NRIs

Indian NRI. I shall try to speak about all NRI s of our country.Who are NRIs ? Those Indians who have permanently or for a long time have been settled in foreign countries are called NRIs. These NRIs may be divided as per country where they have  settled.More or less large sections have settled in Asian countries, Arabian countries, middle East countries, Europe , America , Australia  Canada and Germany. We  generally give special weightage for Europe , Germany , America , Canada and Australia. Why do  we give them so much  importance? No doubt they earn very handsome amount  in the currency of that country where they have settled. Of course the monthly income must vary   according to nature of jobs and qualifications ,Change of attitude.

In most of the cases the change of attitude are utterly noticed. Firstly they try to forget everything about their origin except their names. They  feel proud and severely like to think themselves as a part of that country.Say one Bengali young boy has settled in England ,he will be proud to think himself as English. Initially they keep contact with their families but in most of the cases  they disconnect the relationship with their families soon.By this it may be noticed that he has changed himself fully and adopted  his new country like food, dress , language and make up.It is frequently noticed that many families try utmost to maintain a minimum relationship with their sons but they loose all interests
. Now they may go for marriage and they will select their brides and may not intimate the same to their families. It may so happen that after few years they inform their families about the marriage and also the birth of their babies.

After the birth of babies they take the help of acting and the same are discharged very effectively. Suddenly they change their behaviour and try to be very close of the family.

Now one fine morning he will request his parents to come to his place for the next six months. He will never disclose the real story that the main functions would be to look after his baby . Initially they may not accept the invitation but subsequently will change their minds in view of the fact of a foreign tour which was a dream.

Now one day they have reached at the son's place with lot of dreams and very unfortunately they could realise that they have come only for serving .

They have served the baby like anything and they have suffered like an imprisonment for six months and returned to the family and the same are like heaven.

After many years they visit their original place with a radical change of their appearances and nature . Their appearances have changed so widely that very close associate can't recognize. Besides they have forgotten almost the mother tongue and food habits have also been changed. The family members and also close associate give him much weight age to the foreigner guest .

They feel pleasure for being discharged from the families and do not participate any programme of the families.Do not attend their parents even at death beds. They even  do not attend rituals of their parents.while they visit to their families they carry some gifts.

During their visit to India they get VIP treatment from all sections.Lastly I must honestly admit that I have written this as I had the opportunity to see some NRIs very closely and heard about few and lastly I have read about them and I applied my imagination.

This is however , not the entire picture of all the NRIs.There are many exceptional and dutiful NRIs as well.Ofcourse I have not seen such exceptional personality.
